FA Trophy match preview: Aveley v Ives

It’s the second round of the Isuzu FA Trophy this weekend as St Ives Town make the trip to Aveley.

The visit to the National League South outfit comes on the back of an excellent 3-1 victory for the Ives in the last round against Marine. Prior to this, they navigated their way past Kettering in the third qualifying round of the competition.

The run in the FA Trophy has coincided with some excellent form for the Ives who go into the game unbeaten in the last five games in all competitions. Last Saturday, the Ives secured an excellent 4-2 win at home to Halesowen, with all four goals for the Ives coming in the first half. That result meant that the Ives got themselves out of the relegation zone after a difficult first couple of months of the season.

IVES TEAM NEWS

Supporters of the Ives will be hoping that midfielder Dan Barton will be fit to be included in the squad after leaving the field early in the first half last week following a head injury. Johnny Herd continues with his recovery from injury whilst the striking options will be lead by Brandon Njoku and Jonny Edwards.

INTROUDCING AVELEY

The trip to Aveley is arguably the biggest test yet for the Ives as they face a side who are currently second in the National League South and eight points behind leaders Yeovil. Aveley, nicknamed the Millers have lost six times in the league this season, two of those have come in the last two games. Last Saturday they lost 3-0 at Bath City and on Monday night suffered a 2-1 reverse at home to Chelmsford City. The Millers made decent progress in the FA Cup as they made it to the fourth qualifying round but were deprived a place in the first round proper after losing 4-0 in a replay to Barnet.
