Lewis Hilliard Signs for St Ives Town

The club and our friends at Free Super Tips are delighted to announce the signing of Lewis Hilliard.

Attacking midfielder Hilliard 26, has agreed terms and becomes Ricky Marheineke’s fourth signing of the summer. The versatile and exciting midfielder can play anywhere across midfield as well as in a more advanced role off the striker.

Lewis won’t be a stranger to supporters of the Ives as he spent many years at near neighbours St Neots Town FC during our days in the United Counties League as well as being part of their success through step 4 and into the Southern League Premier. Lewis then went on to have short spells at St Albans and Biggleswade Town before linking up with former St. Neots boss Dennis Green at Boston United in the Conference North.

The manager had this to say:

“Lewis is a fantastic player and one I have enjoyed watching over the years. I felt at times last season we lacked creativity in midfield and Lewis will certainly bring that to the team. Not only can he create goals but he can score them as well. I’m looking forward to working with Lewis as he is the sort of player we want to attract to the club in order for us to try and continue moving forward”

Please join us in welcoming Lewis to the club.

Welcome to James Smith

We are delighted to announce the appointment of James Smith as the clubs new physio.

James replaces Liam Peaks, who stepped down from his role at the end of last month. After a successful meeting on Wednesday afternoon, James has agreed to take up the position with immediate effect.

With previous experience of working at both Braintree and Haverhill as well as  Cambridge Utd Ladies, James is a great addition and will reinforce the strength of our coaching staff.

James will work with the first team as well as the youth team players on our full time education programme.

The manager was very happy to have secured James services and is looking forward to working with him next season and beyond.

“We had quite a bit of interest in the role once it had been advertised, however, James was the outstanding candidate. After meeting James I know we can develop a strong and trusting relationship and am confident he will excel in his new role”

We welcome James and wish him every success in his new position.

Player Update: One Signs Contract and One Departs

One Signs Contract and One Departs

We are delighted to announce that last night (Monday 5th June), Danny Kelly signed a one year contract with the Football Club.

Will lots of interest from other clubs at our level it is great news that Danny has decided to remain with the Ives and to be part of helping the club progress. After an impressive first season, we are looking forward to an even better second.

We do however say farewell to Liam McDevitt. Liam has made the decision to move on and everyone at the club would like to thank him for his efforts last season and wish him every success in the future.

Manager Ricky Marheineke had this to say:

“I’ve chuffed Danny has agreed to stay at the club. He’s a big player for us both on and off the pitch. Danny contributed brilliantly last year and I’m confident he will have an even bigger impact this year”

“I wish Liam all the very best for the future. I would like to thank him personally for his contribution and the part he played in our successful first season in the Southern Premier Division. Liam is a great lad and I have no doubt we will stay in contact”

St Ives Town Welcome Three New Additions

St Ives Town Announces 3 New Additions

The club and our sponsors at are delighted to announce 3 new additions to the playing squad for the upcoming season. The manager has confirmed deals have been agreed in principle with Brett Longden, Jimmy Hartley and Phil Draycott.

Right back Longden is 23 years old and moves to us from Chesham Utd. The former Luton Town professional has had loan spells at Boreham Wood and Mainenhead Utd as well as being part of the St Neots Town side to reach the play off final during the 2014/15 season.

Attacker Hartley joins us from Southern Central Division side Barton Rovers where he helped the club reach the play off final last season. Jimmy is a young and exciting winger who is comfortable playing on either side of a 4 man midfield or in a front 3.

And finally, we welcome back to the club, Phil Draycott. Phil departed the Ives last summer following promotion to the Southern Premier division. He had an unsettled season last term but as we all know, will be a great addition to the squad for the coming season. The left sided player played a huge part in our successful promotion season.

Manager Ricky Marheineke had this to say on the signings:

“I’m delighted to have agreed deals for the 3 lads”.

“Brett is a fantastic signing. For someone his age, he has tremendous experience at our level of football and has been part of play off hopeful teams during the last few seasons. To have him on board is sign of where we want to take the club and am looking forward to having him involved”.

“Jimmy is another great signing. I watched him a few times last season for Barton including our game against them in the Challenge Cup. He was on every occasion the outstanding player. His is energetic and has the ability to create something from nothing. He’s comfortable in possession of the football and can play in a number of positions. I’m looking forward to working with Jimmy and helping him develop into the player i know he can be”.

“Finally, Phil. A lad I was disappointed to lose last summer following our promotion to the Premier Division. Last season didn’t go to plan for Phil, however he has an opportunity to come back to the club and get back on track. I know exactly what Phil has to offer and Phil returns knowing exactly what we expect of him”.

“All three boys will improve our already settled squad and I’m confident they will play a big part in helping us move the club forward in our challenging season ahead”.

Please join us in welcoming Brett, Jimmy and Phil to the club and we all hope your time at St Ives Town is both a successful and enjoyable experience

Charlie Day is the only missing player from last season to confirm for next year. This is due to Charlie leaving for a travelling adventure and the dates are not yet confirmed for his departure.

The manager had this to say: “it’s great to have spoken with all of last seasons squad and have them all on board again for next season. Chris George Local Man and Firefighter Fundraiser 5th November

Chris George, Local man and fundraiser for the firefighters charity 5th November 2016

I am one of few people nationwide, chosen by The Firefighters Charity to run the 2017 London marathon for them. This has nothing to do with my running ability – in fact, i have never attempted to run so far in my life – but because I sincerely believe in the fantastic service this charity provides.

The Firefighters Charity offers support and rehabilitation to firefighters and their families during times of injury, illness, stress and bereavement. The charity also offers its help to widows and widowers of firefighters.

All firefighters want to do is to help people, so when they find themselves unable to work for whatever reason it can become a challenging time both physically and mentally. this is where the charity steps in.

I have personally used the Firefighters Charity when I suffered a shoulder and back injury. After a significant time off work I began to feel useless and suffered mentally. The charity were absolutely fantastic and after a 2 week rehab programme at their centre in Cumbria I was soon back at work. I have seen many colleagues with a similar story since then.

None of us know when we may need the fire service, but rest assured, when you do, there are some brave and selfless men and women out there waiting to help you. It’s just that every now and then they need help too.

So help them to help you by donating to the amazing Firefighters Charity.

Information on the Fire Fighters Charity

We are the UK’s leading provider of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families. Our vision is to make a positive difference by supporting people in the fire and rescue community when they are in need. Over the years, we have helped hundreds of thousands of individuals by providing world-class treatment and support services.

It costs over £9 million per year to keep the Charity running, and we are completely reliant upon donations and fundraising, so your support is very much needed.

The role of a firefighter is one of bravery, loyalty and devotion to public service. Just like firefighters, we are passionate about our work and the services we provide to the men and women who risk their lives to save ours.
