Golf Day: Seven Wives win Carl Circus Trophy

Golf Day organiser, Vic Moseley reports on the annual fundraiser held at Lakeside Lodge, Pidley.

Friday 10 May saw the annual St Ives Town Golf Day which again was kindly sponsored by Thomas Quinn Chartered Accountants.

Unlike last year, the sun shined brightly and Lakeside Lodge was in very good condition as the teams set out to do battle for the Carl Circus Trophy. The format was Texas Scramble and the competition was keenly contested.

The winners were Seven Wives 2 with a net score of 57.9. Their team consisted of :

Terry Dunbavin
Luke Wakeman
Martin Goodship
Tom Stanlan

Runners up were the winners for the last 2 Years Thomas Quinn with a net score of 59.6. Their team consisted of :-

Tony Wright
Mark Macdonald
Matt Silsby
Ross Sutherland

Nearest the Pin winners were:-

Hole 3 John Coulson
Hole 5 Anton D’Avillar
Hole 16 Ross Sutherland.

My thanks to all the hole sponsors and those who provided prizes for the raffle, to Maureen & Mark for another excellent buffet, to Paul & Michelle for filling in at short notice and handling the bar superbly and Phil Moore for running the raffle.

A special mention to the maestro with the microphone, our very own Andy Dunn who dealt with the presentation ceremony and the auction with his usual aplomb.

Finally it was very pleasing Carol, Maurice, Deniece and other family members were present to see the presentation of the Carl Circus Trophy. Carl is sadly missed but will always be fondly remembered.

Finally a big thank you for everybody who took part on the day. Whilst we do not have the final figures it will be a financial success for the club.

IVES HOST CHARITY FOOTBALL MATCH

A crowd of over 300 gathered at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road last Thursday evening to support a ladies charity football match in aid of Kick-Out Cancer.

The match was organised in memory of local footballers Charlene Martin and Samanta Isaacson who lost their lives to bowel cancer. Charlene played for St Ives Town Ladies when she died from the disease.

Guest of honour was the Mayor of St Ives, Cllr Philip Pope who led the teams out onto the pitch.  All proceeds from the event went to the Arthur Rank Hospice.

St Ives Golf Day 2023

The annual St Ives Town Golf Day took place on Friday 12 May.

The event was held at Lakeside Lodge Golf Course near Huntingdon and attracted over twenty teams. This year all teams taking part were playing for the Carl Circus Trophy, which was named after a supporter of St Ives Town who sadly passed away earlier in the season. The club welcomed his widow, Carol to the presentation ceremony held at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road after the event.

The competition was won by St Ives based accountants, Thomas Quinn. The victory sees them win the Golf Day on three successive occasions after wins in 2019 and 2022. The competition was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

Mark MacDonald, who was part of the Thomas Quinn team said “We are delighted to win. It is always a fantastic event to take part in and extremely well organised. It is also great to see Carol Circus here. Many of us know her well and it is a fitting tribute to Carl that we competed for a trophy in his memory.”

Vic Moseley, who organised the event for the football club said “It was a fantastic day, and despite the weather I would like to thank everyone who participated in the testing conditions.  Golf is at its best in sunny weather, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case on Friday.  I would like to thank Thomas Quinn for their continued sponsorship of the event and everyone who helped out especially Maureen Clarke and Marina Howlett for the superb buffet, Phil Moore and Gareth Chapman for co-ordinating the raffle and Andy Dunn for his work as MC and auctioneer”.

Mark MacDonald from Thomas Quinn collects the trophy on behalf of his team that won the St Ives Town Golf Day.  Also in the team were Tony Wright, Matt Silsby and John Cade.

ST IVES TOWN GOLF DAY 2023!

Preparations are well underway for the annual St Ives Town golf day.

This year, the event takes place on Friday 12 May at Lakeside Lodge Golf Course at Pidley near Huntingdon.

There has been a big interest with many teams signing up already with the event almost at capacity.  There has also been plenty of interest in hole sponsorship too.  This year the teams will be competing for the Carl Circus Trophy, named after a loyal supporter of St Ives Town who sadly died earlier this season.  After the golf, there will be a buffet and presentation in the clubroom at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road.

There is still space for more teams to come forward and anyone who is interested in either competing or sponsoring the event should contact Vic Moseley via email at victor.moseley@virginmedia.com or phone 07950 756409.

New U11’s and U12’s Manager

As we look to develop our youth programme, the club is now looking for two new managers – one for an under 11s team and one for an under 12s team.

Managers wanting to apply should at least have an FA level 1 coaching badge, an up-to-date DBS, safeguarding and first aid certificates. They should also have a desire to develop their own coaching journey.

Ideally, the teams would play in the Sunday Peterborough Junior Alliance League with progression at under 13s into the coveted EJA league.

With the aid of the Youth Development Manager, we’d be looking for the successful managers to host open trials (held at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road stadium).

If you feel that you’re ready for the next challenge in your managerial journey then please contact Paul Everest with a brief introduction, current team and your name and number by clicking HERE to email Paul.

Semi-final Saturdays at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road!

SEMI FINAL SATURDAYS AT THE QUATTRO-TECH WESTWOOD ROAD

St Ives Town Reserves could progress to two cup finals in the forthcoming weeks as they are in the last four of the Hunts Intermediate Cup and the Percy Oldham Memorial Cup.

Up first is the semi final of the Intermediate Cup on 4 March when they host Warboys Town at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road.  A win for the Ives would see them face Eaton Socon Reserves in the final.  To get to the last four, the Ives have so far beaten Bluntisham Rangers and Somersham Town.

Then, on 11 March the Ives face Chatteris Town in the semi final of the Percy Oldham Memorial Cup.  The winners will face either Melbourn or Hardwick in the final.  In previous rounds the Ives have beaten Debden and Comberton United.

So two sucessive Saturdays of semi final football at the Quatto-Tech Westwood Road.  Please note that the Intermediate Cup game kicks-off at 1:30pm and the Percy Oldham Cup fixture starts at 3:00pm.  The lads will really appreciate your support so make sure you get down and give them a cheer in their quest for a place in the final of both competitions.
