St Ives Ladies Charity Run – Sunday 31 Dec

The ladies squad are running to raise money for Hunts Community Cancer Network in support of their fellow team mate who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for bowel cancer.

The run will take place around 9:30 am, starting from the St Ivo Outdoor Centre and finishing at the football club about 9:45 am.

All are welcome to attend at WWR to greet and give them the welcome they deserve. Refreshments will be available.

The below is taken from the Just Giving page –

Back in April 2017 my life changed forever when I heard the words “you have stage 4 bowel cancer”. Thankfully the words that followed were “curative intent” and that was all I needed to hear!

Since then I’ve had major surgery on both my bowel and liver and I’m currently approaching round 5 out of 12 of my chemotherapy post surgery.

So the plan is that between now and 31st Jan 2018 I’m going to run a mile for every year of my life. To some people this may seem easy but believe me when I say I only ever run for cake! Whilst trying to complete my miles I’ll still be receiving chemo every other Tuesday. Running even 1 mile on chemo week is gonna be a chore but I’m gonna do it! I’m gonna have some help and motivation in the form of my 14 year old daughter who is going to run every mile by my side ( thank you princess – I love you).

Any donations are greatly appreciated, I can’t thank the nurses at HCCN enough for all they are doing for me and my family at this difficult time.

New Dawn For Local Footballing Talent

Following a hugely successful first season in the Cambs League, winning the League and Cup double, St Ives Town U13s (future Year9) managed by Brett Fairholm have been accepted to make the step up to The Eastern Junior Alliance (EJA) League for the 2017/18 Season. The EJA is seen as  the leading youth development football league in the South East Of England and the stepping stone between the academy levels of the professional ranks and the regular youth level in all counties. Spread over 9 counties and with approximately 70 clubs and 185 teams, the EJA gives youth players the chance to progress their game to a better level on and off the pitch: With higher standards of coaching, behavior and conduct, by teaching youth players what to expect, and what will be expected of them in their future football careers.

Brett Fairholm – “Playing in the Cambs League has been a fantastic experience and The Eastern Junior Alliance is a big step for our boys, most teams that they’ll be facing next season have a large saturation of boys that have been with Professional Academies from a very young age, but we are very confident that we’ll compete and leave a good impression on the teams we face. We will be playing in the Suffolk section of the League against some very strong East Anglian teams. This time last year St Ives Town didn’t have a presence in local, boy’s youth football and to achieve what they have in such a short space of time is amazing really….As a club we hope to be able to provide a standard of football for the boys in St Ives and the surrounding area that cannot be matched by other clubs. Playing consistently at the highest level will not only benefit the boys themselves but no doubt over a period of time, the club too. It will help create a seamless link between the Youth Teams, The Football Educational Program, currently headed by Jack Cassidy and our 1st Team Managed by Ricky Marheineke.

If you would like to contact Brett for next season u14s its

Striker James Hall Returns

The club and our sponsor Bookmaker Advisor confirm the signature and a return to the ProEdge of James Hall.

The 27 year old former Saint returns to the club and links up with manager Ricky Marheineke for the second time in 3 seasons following his departure at the end of the 2014/15 season due to work commitments.

Since his departure James has had very successful spells at Godmanchester Rovers, Cambridge City, St Neots and Kettering Town. James’s pace, power and willingness to stretch defences, resulted in him scoring 23 goals last season.

The manager had this to say on the signing.

“James is another very good signing and I’m delighted he has decided to return to the club. He is an exceptionally hard working and energetic striker who doesn’t give defenders a moment of rest. He’s developed into an excellent Southern Prem player over the last 18 months and his goal scoring record at our level speaks for itself. I’ve known James for many years and I’m really looking forward to working with him again”.

Please join us in welcoming James back to the club.

Lewis Hilliard Signs for St Ives Town

The club and our friends at Free Super Tips are delighted to announce the signing of Lewis Hilliard.

Attacking midfielder Hilliard 26, has agreed terms and becomes Ricky Marheineke’s fourth signing of the summer. The versatile and exciting midfielder can play anywhere across midfield as well as in a more advanced role off the striker.

Lewis won’t be a stranger to supporters of the Ives as he spent many years at near neighbours St Neots Town FC during our days in the United Counties League as well as being part of their success through step 4 and into the Southern League Premier. Lewis then went on to have short spells at St Albans and Biggleswade Town before linking up with former St. Neots boss Dennis Green at Boston United in the Conference North.

The manager had this to say:

“Lewis is a fantastic player and one I have enjoyed watching over the years. I felt at times last season we lacked creativity in midfield and Lewis will certainly bring that to the team. Not only can he create goals but he can score them as well. I’m looking forward to working with Lewis as he is the sort of player we want to attract to the club in order for us to try and continue moving forward”

Please join us in welcoming Lewis to the club.

James will work with the first team as well as the youth team players on our full time education programme.

The manager was very happy to have secured James services and is looking forward to working with him next season and beyond.

St Ives Town Welcome Three New Additions

St Ives Town Announces 3 New Additions

The club and our sponsors at are delighted to announce 3 new additions to the playing squad for the upcoming season. The manager has confirmed deals have been agreed in principle with Brett Longden, Jimmy Hartley and Phil Draycott.

Right back Longden is 23 years old and moves to us from Chesham Utd. The former Luton Town professional has had loan spells at Boreham Wood and Mainenhead Utd as well as being part of the St Neots Town side to reach the play off final during the 2014/15 season.

Attacker Hartley joins us from Southern Central Division side Barton Rovers where he helped the club reach the play off final last season. Jimmy is a young and exciting winger who is comfortable playing on either side of a 4 man midfield or in a front 3.

And finally, we welcome back to the club, Phil Draycott. Phil departed the Ives last summer following promotion to the Southern Premier division. He had an unsettled season last term but as we all know, will be a great addition to the squad for the coming season. The left sided player played a huge part in our successful promotion season.

Manager Ricky Marheineke had this to say on the signings:

“I’m delighted to have agreed deals for the 3 lads”.

“Brett is a fantastic signing. For someone his age, he has tremendous experience at our level of football and has been part of play off hopeful teams during the last few seasons. To have him on board is sign of where we want to take the club and am looking forward to having him involved”.

“Jimmy is another great signing. I watched him a few times last season for Barton including our game against them in the Challenge Cup. He was on every occasion the outstanding player. His is energetic and has the ability to create something from nothing. He’s comfortable in possession of the football and can play in a number of positions. I’m looking forward to working with Jimmy and helping him develop into the player i know he can be”.

“Finally, Phil. A lad I was disappointed to lose last summer following our promotion to the Premier Division. Last season didn’t go to plan for Phil, however he has an opportunity to come back to the club and get back on track. I know exactly what Phil has to offer and Phil returns knowing exactly what we expect of him”.

“All three boys will improve our already settled squad and I’m confident they will play a big part in helping us move the club forward in our challenging season ahead”.
