Match Preview – The Ives v Rushall Olympic

The league programme continues for St Ives Town on Saturday as they host Rushall Olympic at Westwood Road.

The match comes a week after a 2-2 draw at home to Basford United.  However, since then it’s been a busy week on the player front as manager Ricky Marheineke has had the positive news of two new signings in addition to current players agreeing contracts.

With the latter both Jordan Williams and Jonny Edwards committed in midweek to staying at the Ives until the end of the season.  Whilst Ravi Shamsi and Charlie Johnson have joined the club from AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Bury Town.

All four players are available for selection ahead of the game against Rushall and the Ives will be looking to desperately return to winning ways at home as you have to go back August Bank Holiday Monday when they last tasted a league victory at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road.

Introducing the visitors:

Rushall arrive currently 7th in the table having won five of their 13 league games to date.  Last Saturday they held Nuneaton Borough to a 0-0 draw and went into the match having won three out of their previous four league matches.  In that sequence, came their highest victory of the season and that was against Stratford Town who they beat 5-0 on 01 October.  Rushall were recently knocked out of the FA Trophy by Hednesford Town and earlier this season Redditch United eliminated them from the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage.

Star Man:

Look out for midfielder Sam Mantom.  The 30 year old started his career at West Brom but made his name at Walsall where he made over 100 appearances during a three year spell.  He has also played for Southend and Hemel Hempstead and has also had a brief stay at Rushall previously before returning this season.

Last Season:

16/11/21:  Rushall Olympic 3 St Ives Town 1

02/04/22: St Ives Town 3 Rushall Olympic 2
