Match Preview – The Ives v Hednesford Town

The league action continues for St Ives Town on Saturday afternoon as they welcome bottom side Hednesford Town to the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road.

The match comes one week after the Ives narrowly failed to secure a win at home to Needham Market as they succumbed to an injury time equaliser as the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

The Ives continue to have injury concerns, especially defensively as Kane Lewis and Julien Sakka are doubtful for the match.  Up front, Nabil Shariff was on the scoresheet last weekend and boss Ricky Marheineke could be tempted to start him alongside Johnny Edwards.

Introducing the Visitors

It’s a been a difficult season so far for Hednesford.  Nicknamed the Pitmen, they arrive bottom of the table, having amassed just eight points all season.  Their latest outing was on Tuesday night when they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Stourbridge.  They have won only once, and that was against fellow strugglers AFC Rushden & Diamonds.  In the FA Cup, they were eliminated by Long Eaton United in the first qualifying round and in the FA Trophy they got knocked out last Saturday in the second qualifying round stage, losing 2-0 at Coalville.

Star Man

Keep an eye out for Leory Lita.  As well as playing for England Under 21’s, the striker has also played for a number of football league clubs including Bristol City, Reading, Middlesbrough and Barnsley.
