Match Preview – The Ives v Bromsgrove Sporting

It’s the reverse of the opening day fixture on Saturday as St Ives town welcome Bromsgrove Sporting to the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road.

Back on the opening day in August, the Ives found themselves a goal down at the break but two second half strikes from Johnny Edwards ensured maximum points.

Wind the clock forward four months, and the Ives go into the game in decent form having recorded back-to-back league victories against Hednesford Town and Kings Langley and are currently 10th in the table, six points off the play-offs but with four games in hand.  In midweek, the Ives recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory at Godmanchester to progress through to the final of the Hunts Senior Cup.

Ives boss Ricky Marheineke does have a few injury concerns ahead of the match tomorrow.  Myles Cowling was withdrawn early from the game at Kings Langley last Saturday.  Whilst defenders Kane Lewis and Julien Sakka are still coming back from injury.  Definitely missing is Ravi Shamsi who looks set to have a prolonged period on the sidelines after a sustaining an injury at Bedford last month.

INTRODUCING THE VISITORS:

Bromsgrove arrive a place below the Ives in the league table and also in decent form.  From their last six league outings, they have won three, drawn two and lost one.  The solitary defeat coming last weekend at Rushall Olympic.  In that sequence of matches was an impressive 3-0 win against promotion chasing Nuneaton Borough.

STAR MAN:

Look out for striker Daniel Sweeney.  The 24-year-old has played for a host of midlands-based clubs including Redditch, Hednesford and Solihull.  He has been in prolific form this season for Bromsgrove having netted 13 times in the league so far.

LAST SEASON:

23/11/21 St Ives Town 2 Bromsgrove Sporting 2
