Match Preview: Redditch United v St Ives Town

It wasn’t so long ago that St Ives Town fans were looking at the next set of fixtures and wondering where the points may be coming from. Scheduled matches against the top three of Mickleover, Needham Market and Redditch understandably gave supporters cause for concern.

However, the Ives make the trip to league leaders Redditch on Saturday with back-to-back victories against Mickleover and Needham Market with confidence sky high in the camp that they may take maximum points, and with it extend their winning run to four wins on the bounce.

IVES TEAM NEWS

Despite the excellent results against Needham Market and Mickleover, there’s no doubt the trip to Redditch will be a tough assignment, The hosts are currently four points clear at the top of the table and have played more games than any of the chasing pack. The Ives have new signing Jake Hutchings available who joined in the week after he was released by Coalville Town. The experienced centre back will boost the defensive options, especially after the Ives said goodbye to Benji Mensah who has joined a club at a higher level. Jonny Edwards and Theo Alexandrou will be spearheading the Ives attack, with the latter getting a man of the match performance following his two goals against Needham Market last weekend.

INTRODUCING REDDITCH

Redditch go into the game on the back of a 2-0 win against strugglers Long Eaton United last Saturday. That result extended their winning run to three with victories against Hitchin and Bromsgrove Sporting prior to that. The hosts have been in and around the top six all season and hit top spot two weeks ago. They have lost five times in the league so far this season against Stamford, Coalville (twice), Barwell and Leamington. Their FA Cup progress was thwarted at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage by Peterborough Sports and in the FA Trophy they were eliminated by Radcliffe in the 3rd round.
