Match Preview: Leiston v St Ives

St Ives Town continue their league action on Tuesday evening when they make the trip to Leiston.

It will be the second time within a fortnight that the Ives make the trip to Suffolk. The first ended in an FA Cup defeat, so it will be an early opportunity for revenge.

On Saturday the Ives put in a good performance against AFC Telford United and looked to be on course for their first home victory of the season when they went 2-1 in front. However, two late goals from the visitors including a last gasp minute meant that the Ives missed out on the points.

IVES TEAM NEWS

The Ives make the trip to Suffolk with injury concerns over Brandon Njoku. The loan striker from Cambridge United missed out on the game against Telford on Saturday. If he doesn’t make it, then boss Ricky Marheineke could be tempted to start with the same line-up from the weekend which saw Greg Kaziboni and Tiago Nassunculo playing as makeshift strikers. Jordan Williams came back into the team after missing out in the FA Cup clash and he looks set to to continue at the heart of the defence. Both Johnny Edwards and Myles Cowling are still not fit, but could come into contention for the Redditch game later this month.

INTRODUCING LEISTON

Like the Ives, Leiston fell to defeat in the league on Saturday as they suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to leaders, Mickleover. Leiston were just 1-0 down at the break, but the league leaders tore into them into the second half with four further goals to secure the victory. Aside from Saturday and the FA Cup match with the Ives, Leiston started the campaign with a 2-1 reverse at Halesowen. They followed this up with a first victory against Telford. They have had two 0-0 draws against Berkhamsted and Needham Market and have been involved in five goal and seven goal matches which have seen a defeat and a win. First, a 3-2 win against Bromsgrove Sporting followed by a 4-3 victory at Stratford. Leiston currently sit 14th in the table having won two, drawn two, and lost three of their opening seven league games.
