It’s the first home league game of 2024 for St Ives Town on Saturday as they host Leiston at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. The game will be the third meeting between the two teams this season with Leiston eliminating the Ives from the FA Cup in September followed by a draw in the league at Victory Road 10 days later.
Ives Team News
The Ives go into the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat at Stamford on New Years Day. Missing from the squad for that game was Brandon Njoku who has been recalled by Cambridge United after a successful loan period with the Ives. Fellow loanee from the Abbey Stadium, Dan Barton remains with the Ives and will feature again. Meanwhile, the impressive Ben Mensah who has now scored three goals in the last three games including a brace at Stamford on Monday looks set to continue at right back.
Introducing Leiston
Leiston arrive after suffering defeat against Royston Town on New Years Day. That defeat bought to an end a run of 8 games where they went undefeated. As a result of that run, the Suffolk outfit had moved up the table and go into the game tomorrow 13th in the table, 3 points clear of the Ives.
Last Season
Leiston got the better of the Ives in both league games last season. In September, Leiston inflicted a 2-1 defeat. In January the Ives travelled to Suffolk and lost 1-0 as the hosts continued their push for a play-off spot.
