The curtain comes down on another league season for St Ives Town as they make the trip to Nuneaton on Saturday afternoon.
It’s been a long season that has seen plenty of highs and lows and no more than a fortnight ago it looked a real possibility that the Ives could be relegated. However, they make the trip on the back of three straight wins that will see them finish well clear of the drop zone. Easter victories against Tamworth and Royston all but secured their safety and it was rubber stamped courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Bedford last Saturday.
The Ives will be looking to finish the season on a high, and boss Ricky Marheineke will be looking for his players to put in a strong performance against a Nuneaton side who lost 3-0 to Tamworth on Thursday night. Both Tamworth and Coalville will be going for the title on the last day of the season.
INTRODUCING NUNEATON
Nuneaton secured a place in the play-offs a few weeks ago and currently sit fourth in the table but there are question marks over whether they go into the game with the all important momentum. Aside from the defeat against Tamworth on Thursday, Mickleover and Kings Langley have taken points off them in the last four league games. They do have a fantastic home record though, and have only lost once at their Liberty Way ground all season.
THE REVERSE FIXTURE
It was November 5th when the two teams met at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. The visitors stormed to a two goal lead inside the first 20 minutes. But the Ives put in a much more spirited display in the second half and Jonny Edwards set-up a grandstand finish with a goal five minutes from time, but Nuneaton held on to secure the points.
If you are not making the trip, then a reminder that you can keep up to date with all the action from Liberty Way throughout the afternoon via social media with a post match report and highlights available on the website and club youtube channel during the weekend.
Kick-off at Liberty Way is at 3:00pm.
