Ladies Development clinch the Cambs Women’s Championship South Division

St Ives Town Ladies Development team followed up the Ladies first team’s title winning season when they wrapped up the Cambs Championship South title after recording two wins over Park Ladies in a double header on Sunday.

The first game saw Ives take the lead early on through a tremendous Jade Carpenter finish, followed by a Tierney Coulson goal to put the hosts in control. But Park were allowed a lifeline back into the game as a slack back pass was intercepted by the Park striker before she finished past keeper Sophie Marjoram to make the game 2-1. But the Saints didn’t panic and further goals from Coulson and Fran Worrall sealed a 4-1 win.

So going in to the second game, Ives needed just a point to win the league title. But the message from manager Lisa Trigg was to go and win the game! The players responded in tremendous style as they lead 4-0 at half time through Jade Carpenter, Kirsty Wicks, Hannah Seymour-Shove and an OG. The scoring was completed by Carpenter with another fine finish to win the second game 5-0 and seal the league title for Ives, to follow up the ladies first team’s league success. Players of the Match were Jade Carpenter and Cherish Sibanda.

Shortly after the game Lisa Trigg announced she was stepping down to take a break  from managing the side. Lisa said “I’m so proud of all the players, not just for today but also for all their hard work through the season. They fully deserve this success and it has been worth all the hard work put in over the last two seasons since this team was formed. I’m proud of all we have achieved, and look forward to seeing the team continuing to progress over the coming months and years.”

Ladies 1st team manager Darren Marjoram said “This has put the icing on a fantastic season for the ladies section of the club. Lisa has been instrumental in the success achieved over the last two seasons, and she will be sorely missed by us all. She is not just a great coach, but a close personal friend and someone I can always turn to for help and advice. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Lisa for everything she has done for St Ives Town Ladies. Now we start to look ahead to next season, and are looking for new players interested in joining our ladies teams.” Anyone interested in joining for next season can get details from Darren by emailing him on darren.marjoram@ntlworld.com – open training sessions will be running throughout June.
