Mills joins the coaching staff

The club are delighted to announce that Gary Mills will join the coaching staff for the coming season and takes up the position as first team coach.

The former professional football who played as a midfielder has had successful spells at Rushden & Diamonds, Crawley Town, Kettering Town, Stevenage Borough, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City. Gary’s achievements as a player include winning the FA Trophy and league winners medals at Conference North, Conference Premier and the Football League 3rd division levels.

Gary then made the step into management as assistant manager at Wrexham Football Club followed by a spell in a similar role at King’s Lynn Town before taking up the position as manager at Rugby Town and Corby Town.

Mills, a UEFA A licence coach has most recently been working at Northampton Town FC within their academy set up as the lead coach at under 16 level. His success over the past few seasons of developing talent at that age group has been second to none with excellent progression numbers into the scholarship phase as well as winning the EFL youth alliance South East division in 18/19 and 19/20 seasons.

Please join me in welcoming Gary to the club and we hope your journey with us in a successful one.

Mitch Austin appointed as Assistant Manager

Following the news of Bully Adams departure as assistant manager, we are pleased to bring you the news of his replacement.

We can confirm that Mitch Austin will take up the position with immediate effect and joins up with manager Ricky Marheineke as preparations for next season continue.

Austin, 32, has had spells managing in the United Counties League with Sileby Rangers Bugbrooke and Rothwell Corinthians. Mitch also spent the 2017/18 season with Kettering Town FC as assistant to Marcus Law where they reached the play off semi finals, losing to eventual play off winners Slough.

Manager Ricky Marheineke had this to say:

“I’m really pleased to have Mitch on board. It was important to get someone in that I trust. He’s very loyal and hard working. Mitch has grafted in the UCL with limited resources and been very successful. He will bring some fresh ideas, a different vision and a winning mentality. He deserves this opportunity and I’m very excited to see how far we can take the club together”

Please join me in welcoming Mitch to the club and we wish you success in your role.

Bully steps down from first team duties

The club can confirm that Craig ‘Bully’ Adams has made the difficult decision to step down from his role as first team assistant manager.

Following a conversation with the manager on Wednesday evening, Bully confirmed he will continue working at the Football Club but wishes to focus all of his time and attention on his Academy Managers role to help grow the club beneath the first team.

Manager Ricky Marheineke said “I would like to thank Bully for all his hard work and loyalty over the past two seasons. We’ve had lots of great moments and special occasions during our time together and many that will long live in the memories for myself and our supporters. Although it wasn’t what I was expecting, I respect Bully’s decision and now look forward to a close working relationship with him as we look to improve the transition for players from our Academy into the first team”

The recruitment process for a new assistant manager is well underway and we will bring you news as soon as we have it.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE STATEMENT 24TH MARCH – SEASON 2019/20

League Statement 24th March – Season 2019/20

The Alliance Leagues held the latest of several conference calls last night (Monday) after our own board, and those of the Isthmian and Northern Premier Leagues, met over the weekend to determine how we wish to proceed. We have also participated in calls with the Step 5/6 clubs.

End of season

The Step 3 & 4 Leagues share clubs’ frustration that it is taking so long to determine whether the 2019/20 season is to end now, and if so on what basis. To maintain the integrity of our competitions, we ideally need to apply one solution across all of the National League System. However, this may not be possible.

The Southern, Isthmian and Northern Premier Leagues are unanimous in wanting to terminate the 2019-20 season immediately.

Whether that is done on the basis of determining final placings via average points per game, or the season is declared null & void cannot be decided until the National League decides how it wishes to proceed.

Right now, the National League’s position is that they wish to be able to resume the 2019-20 season at some point. The feeder Leagues do not support this because our clubs do not have the financial resources to continue to honour player contracts indefinitely.

The Southern, Isthmian and Northern Premier Leagues have therefore implemented the process to terminate the season. This has to be ratified by FA council, so there may be a short delay as the relevant documentation is submitted, distributed and approved. Therefore, the League’s desire is not the confirmed outcome.

Whilst this process is on-going, and once the National League has finalised how it wishes to proceed, competition issues can then be decided, together with the implications for promotion and relegation.

Match Preview & Squad Details – Tamworth v St Ives Town

TAMWORTH FC v ST IVES TOWN FC

BetVictor Southern Premier Central – Saturday 4 January 3:00pm

After the agony of losing by the odd goal in seven against Rushden & Diamonds on New Years Day, The Ives have no respite as we head to current league leaders Tamworth for our first away game of the decade.

On the squad front, Aaron Phillips is a doubt after limping off at half time during the New Years Day fixture at home to AFC Rushden and Diamonds. Ben Jackson is also set to miss the game with his hamstring injury picked up against Nuneaton.

The Lambs are currently in 1st place in the league with 44 points from 20 games. Click here for Tamworth’s fixtures & results.

There is a coach going to the game laid on by our logistical partner Omega Tour at £10pp meeting at WWR at 10:45 for an 11:00 sharp departure. Contact Gareth Chapman on 07754 601146 to book a seat.
