“Waters nets a hat trick as 10 men Saints push for the draw”
Two hundred and eleven watched a nine goal thriller at ProEdge Westwood Road with Waters netting a ten minute hat trick from the bench to give ten men St Ives all hopes of a draw.
Northwood had the perfect start and inside the first minute Oliver Sprague’s free kick sailed into the far corner shocking the home supporters as many still stood in the bar. The Woods started the better side but St Ives still had their chances with Avi Vieira going close. It was soon two nil when Karl Oliyide beat McLaughlin at the near post. On 49 minutes, Jordan Lambert was sent off for the Saints for handball on the line and Dave Lawrence stepped up to score, at the second attempt, after McLaughlin’s penalty save. With Northwood running riot it soon became 0-4 and Jerome Federico added his name to the score sheet. On 66 minutes, Jimmy Dean started an emphatic comeback with a bullet header. Substitute; Matty Waters, on loan from Histon, netted a superb hat trick in the final ten minutes and even in the dying moments the Saints hopeful were expecting a share of the points but Northwood held out against the ten men of St Ives Town.
