“Rebels run riot and claim all three points”

by Simon Clark

The Rebels came, invaded and are heading back to Slough with all three points safely in their grasp in front of a bumper crowd of 315 here at ProEdge Westwood Road.

In a cagey opening 15 minutes, both sides were struggling to stamp their mark on the game but it Johnnie Dyer on 25 minutes who opened the scoring with a disputed off side goal from close range, beating the debutant goalkeeper; Barney McLaughlin from Histon. Dyer would have been disappointed moments later not to make it 0-2 after sliding in but failing to connect from an excellent Darren Wheeler centre.

It was Wheeler on 55 minutes that hit the hammer blow for the Saints as his 20 yard free kick flew into the top corner. Dyer added the third, his second of the game, on 70 minutes as Slough put the game out of the home sides reach. David Cobb and Avelino Vieira had chances for the Saints in the second period but it was too late as the Rebels fully deserved their victory.
