Royston Town 1 St Ives Town 4
Man of the Match: Karl Gibbs (St Ives Town)
The Saints ‘crow’ about their 4-1 win!
by Simon Clark
After two successive defeats to The Crows, the Saints came to Garden Walk looking to exact some revenge and after an excellent performance they ran away with all three points to make the final run in more exciting.
It was the worst possible start for the travelling Saints when Jordan Lambert brought down Dobson in the penalty area in the first two minutes. Robbie Mason stepped up and made no mistake from 12 yards. In the first 5 minutes, the score could have easily been reversed with Avelino Vieira, Karl Gibbs and Dan Newman al going close. On 11 minutes, Jon Stead’s corner met the head of Will Fordham who’s effort shaved the Royston post.
In was on 31 minutes when the scores were brought level. Jon Stead found himself time and space to pick his spot and like Mason for Royston, he made no mistake in finding the bottom corner. Three minutes later, the Saints pressure paid off once again. Vieira’s inswinging corner met the head of Karl Gibbs who gave the Saints the lead.
Shortly after the restart, Barney McLaughlin was brought into action with a fine save from Edwards. Ten minutes into the half, Saints skipper Lee Ellison’s run down the left and strike, which rebounded off the post, was rewarded and fell kindly to Fordham who made it 3-1. Dhillon was dismissed for the Crows on 67 minutes after bringing down Jon Stead as he was the last man.
Jon Stead picked his spot for the second time on 83 minutes to round off an excellent away performance for the Saints.
