“Saints well beaten against The Woods to end unbeaten run”
by Simon Clark
The Saints unbeaten away run has finally come to an end after their defeat today at Northwood with the home side in firm control from start to finish.
In the first period the travelling support were only treated to long range efforts from Jon Stead and Dubi Ogbonna. ‘The Woods’ took the lead on 27 minutes when Michael Murray drilled in a 20 yard free kick into the top corner after Will Fordham had felled Niko Muir on the edge of the box.
Northwood started to press and reduce the Saints chances as they doubled their advantage on 36 minutes. A Murray strike was pushed out by Carl MacKney in the Saints goal, but only dropped to Niko Muir who slotted home at the second attempt.
The home side took a deserved to goal advantage into the break and came out strong, just as they finished the first period. Muir’s header on 65 minutes troubled the Saints defence and moment later Murray was denied his second of the game by a good low save from MacKney. The third and final goal came on 85 minutes when MacKney pulled down Muir, and the referee pointed to the spot. Muir stepped up and slotted home with ease. The home side had chances in the closing minutes to add to their tally but the Saints held out to keep the score at 3-0.
