Match Report – Ely City Crusaders U13 2 St Ives Town U13 2

Ely City Crusaders 2 St Ives Town 2

Cambridgeshire & District Colts League U13A Division – 25 March 18

A very hard fought game today. It was one of two halves. We started bright and fast and were rewarded with a fantastic strike from Daniel Legg that looped over the goalkeeper from 30 yards. The game then became a bit scrappy on a heavy pitch which didn’t give any chance to play the ball on the ground as it just simply got stuck in the mud. Both teams were matched for chances but nothing materialised until a minute from half time  when Gino Giove stole in and laced the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Ely came out in the second half more determined and more physical. We stood firm for twenty minutes until a ball over the top combined with a cool finish by their striker made the game more interesting. It was one of those days just in front of goal when the ball didn’t bounce right and the post came to the rescue. Suttie had a few chances, so did Chambers and Baker, however, we could not finish them off. With 3 minutes to go another long ball and a deflection and Ely were in for the draw.

Today we became a team. I don’t say this lightly, however, we had good old determination to do well. Every player worked for one another against a physical Ely team. I am so proud of the concentration levels and the determination of my players today. They all learnt a lot about each other and showed me that they have the right character to play for this great club. My thanks go to Ely for a hard game today and all the best for the rest of the season.

Man of the Match – Billy Chambers
A simply wonderful performance at left back today. He did all the hard work by winning the ball back and his distribution was superb. He was unlucky not to score on a couple occasions. Well done Billy. You deserve the recognition from the great form you’ve been in recently.

My thanks goes to Ollie Coatsworth for going in goal today as we were a few players down and once again he was brilliant. We’re still unbeaten in 2018. My thanks to all the family and friends that came to watch. You should be very proud of the boys today with their attitude to the way they played the game.
