Darren Marjoram has provided the below match report –
Sunday saw the first game for St Ives Town Ladies Development side in the League Cup and they did not disappoint. The game was played at away at Milton Ladies. St Ives captain Drew Jenkins lead by example from the warm up until the final whistle with superb leadership on and off the pitch, and used her experience well to support and encourage all the players from start to finish. Left back Chloe Stefanelli opened the game with a fantastic 30 yard strike to give St Ives the lead they deserved. This was closely followed by number 10 Georgie Astley finding the back of the net before the half time whistle. With a comfortable 2-0 lead the girls did not sit back and started the second half determined to increase the score line. Player of the match Astley started the second half how she finished the first and bagged her second goal of the day with an outstanding volley from the edge of the box. It was then the turn of St Ives striker Jade Carpenter to show what she was capable of, finding the net not once but twice within ten minutes; finishing with a fantastic strike into the top left hand that could not have been more perfectly placed. The next two goals came from captain Jenkins and Megan Stow returning from injury in the best way possible. Finally Centre back Kelly Holliday took the ball from her own 18 yard line to the opposition box, easily passing any of the opposition that got in her way. Milton keeper did well to save her powerful strike but new signing Olivia Baker was there to finish the impressive goal feast with a left foot finish. So the final score was 8-0.
Manager Lisa Trigg speaks with nothing but admiration for the effort and drive the ladies played with.
A fantastic overall squad performance and hopefully the start of a very successful season for this newly formed side.
