Hunts FA Walking Football Charity Festival 2015

Hunts FA Walking Football Charity Festival 2015

Sunday 1st November 2015 – One Leisure St Ives Outdoor – 3G Pitch.

Yesterday saw the Saints play in a charity walking football festival organised by the Hunts FA to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Please see below for an outline on the day and how you can still donate.

“Godmanchester Rovers FC, St. Ives Town FC, Barclays Bank and Hunts FA competed in a charity festival to highlight the benefits of playing Walking Football.

The money raised will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

St. Ives Town FC and Godmanchester Rovers FC squads where created from 1st team coaching staff and lucky supporters who have been selected. Matty Haniver captained the Godmanchester Rovers Team with Ricky Marheineke in charge of St Ives Town FC. Ricky’s brother and Great Britain Amputee Goal keeper Gary played in goal for Barclays. Mark Frost County Secretary played for Hunts FA.

The Barclays Bank and Hunts FA teams were made from staff members and from Brampton FC Walking Football group plus attendees of Hunts FA’s Walking Football Centres.

Although walking football isn’t age or gender specific, the typical participant is of retirement age. Participants will often have played football in the past, but have been out of the game for a number of years. We tried to avoid putting any age restrictions such as 50+, as we could miss out on potential participants; players in their late 40s with health issues will benefit from sessions and will be the perfect participant for walking football as well as players with less mobility.

We had a mixture of ages ranging from 18-79. The Hunts Team consisted of one grandson and one grandfather.

We wanted to promote the Walking Football concept, Showcase the clubs support towards a new format of the game, Engage with each clubs supporters, Raise money for worthy cause and create more Walking Football opportunities.”
