“Saints make it 20 points from a possible 33 with yet another clean sheet away to move them up to 5th place in the Central Division”

The Saints moved into the play off positions with an excellent win against a spirited Beaconsfield side. In a game, where both sides were level pegging on points, it was the opening 10 minutes when the Saints started to dictate proceedings here in Buckinghamshire.

In the opening minute, a Stuart Cobb cross from the right hand side met the head of Karl Gibbs who witnessed his goal bound header tipped over by the home keeper; James Reading. On 3 minutes, Jared Cunniff burst through the Beaconsfield defence but again found Reading in fine form to save well. Cunniff, however, opened the scoring on 13 minutes when he latched on to a rebound from a Dubi Ogbonna effort that was again parried by Reading.

Shortly before the half hour mark, the Saints would have felt that they should be 3 or 4 goals up but a Gibbs effort was gathered by Reading. Moments before the half time break, David Cobb’s throw in met the touch of Ogbonna who’s low effort could not beat Reading in the Beaconsfield goal.

With the Saints leading through the half time break both sides had good chances as the game opened up giving both sets of striker’s time and space on the ball. On 68 minutes, a Stuart Cobb clipped free kick was met well by the towering Will Fordham and his header was equalled by an excellent fingertip save by Reading to keep the score at 0-1.

In the final 5 minutes, the home side pressed and pressed the resilient Saints defence and on 86 minutes Zak Joseph missed an excellent opportunity at the far post as the ball carried across Nick Bennion’s goal. Substitute Jon Stead broke free on 88 minutes but his cross shot was met by the in-form Reading, once again.

On the 90 minute mark, Bennion was brought into action to make a close range save, keeping his cleansheet intact. On the resulting break away, Stead turned provider to tee up Avelino Vieira who finished from close range.
