ON Saturday 23rd November 2013 this date marked an achievement that is rare amongst the professional game and in the world of non league football. Warren Everdell and Jez Hall have amassed an amazing 600 games together as joint managers of St Ives Town FC.
Back in June 2002, and with Everdell already having managed the Saints before on his own, they took charge for the first time in a 1-0 away win at Burton Park Wanderers together as co managers. Both local to St Ives and having proven playing records in the black and white before hand they have contributed massively to the change in what is now becoming a more ambitious football club.
Promotion from the UCL Divison One (step 6) into the Premier Division at Step 5, in 2005, was already breaking records as the club had never appeared this high on the non league pyramid. Bringing the football club their first trophy since 1988 in 2007 when they proudly lifted aloft the Hunts Senior Cup. Over the 600 games, they have now reached 15 cup finals (including their most recent semi final victory in the Senior Cup) winning an amazing 8 trophies along the way. Notibly a tremendous treble of victories in 2007 bringing home the Premier, Senior and Hinchingbrooke Cups in one week of three cup finals.
With four UCL Knockout Cup Finals reached in succession the fifth would always elude them with yet a greater prize was on the cards; promotion to the Southern League! This was achieved in May 2013 after finishing second in the UCL Premier Division which now sees the club playing at Step 4, the highest level in the club’s 125 years history.
With outstanding runs in the FA Cup, FA Vase (Quarter Finalists in 2012) the management duo have a unique understanding of working well together and achieving great success.
St Ives Town Club Secretary; Simon Clark said “This is a fantastic achievement and they deserve every recognition for this milestone. I have been close to both Warren and Jez for many years and from a personal perspective, I am truly delighted for them” he added “I hope they make it to yet another milestone together and that I am there to celebrate this with them”
Warren Everdell said “I am very proud of this achievement and because I have been doing it with someone else makes it even more special. We are both very compatible and both get on really well both on and off the pitch. This has helped us be a successful as we have been” Warren added “Not many other partnerships work out in football but I am really happy for the both of us and very happy for the football club too”
Jez Hall also commented saying “Obviously very proud to have reached this milestone. The club has come a long way in our time here, with two promotions and several cups. It’s great to think we have been part of the clubs progression. We would just like to thank all the players who have played for us throughout the years and the supporters for the support they give us week in week out” Hall added “I would also like to thank all the people who have worked at the club through our time here”
